It takes a lot, but you have everything
Ever wondered what it takes to speak confidently in front of a camera? Well, it’s simpler than you think! And guess what? You already have everything you need but you don't know.
A lot of people feel like they need fancy gear, perfect fluency, or a fully scripted speech before they can record anything. I’m here to tell you that’s not true. In fact, all you really need is the courage to start talking. Let me walk you through this:
If you can speak, you can create. The rest is practice.
Talk to the camera every day, and you’ll notice yourself getting more comfortable. Sure, you may hear people say you need a perfectly written script, but from my experience, it’s better to jot down some bullet points. That way, you’re not reading a script word-for-word, and you’ll sound more natural.
When I started, I made this mistake of scripting everything out. It felt like I was just reading a book aloud, not talking to my audience. Over time, I switched to using bullet points, and it made all the difference. Now, I feel more relaxed, and my personality comes through.
Here’s the truth: The most important thing you need is confidence in yourself. If you’re nervous about making mistakes, don’t be! You own the camera. If you say something wrong, you can always delete the video or edit it. No one is expecting you to be perfect from day one.
When I first started, I wasn’t even fluent in English—it wasn’t the language I grew up speaking. But I knew that I had something valuable to say. So I just started talking, combining the words I knew. And with time, I saw real improvement. That’s exactly how it works: the more you do it, the better you get.
So here’s my advice to you—whether you’re using a phone or a camera—just speak. Don’t overthink it. If you’re scared, that’s okay. Record anyway, make your mistakes, and keep going. Progress is made by trying, failing, and trying again.
And remember, nobody starts out perfect. People want to see your growth. Let them witness your journey from beginner to pro.
